LOKFLOR General FAQs
LOKFLOR is a modular interlocking flooring system manufactured from durable plastic tiles. It is used as a sports surface, classroom mat system, playground mat solution, gym flooring, anti-fatigue matting and selected temporary ground protection flooring. The tiles connect to create a continuous surface that is self-draining, repairable in sections and capable of being removed or relocated.
LOKFLOR is manufactured in South Africa for African operating conditions and can be supplied as a complete project solution, including design, court layouts, assembly, delivery and installation. Its modular construction allows individual sections to be repaired, replaced or reconfigured without removing the entire floor.
LOKFLOR is manufactured in South Africa. Local production supports shorter regional supply chains, project customisation and replacement-tile availability for customers throughout Southern Africa and other African markets.
LOKFLOR is manufactured from UV-stabilised Sasol hexene linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). DITA uses either Sasol HR3935U or Sasol HR3950U, depending on Sasol stock availability when raw material is ordered. Both grades have the same nominal density of 0.939 g/cm³, a UV8 rating, outdoor-use suitability, and antioxidant, UV-stabiliser and internal mould-release additives. Their published properties are closely aligned, with limited differences in melt index, rigidity and impact performance. The selected grade is processed to the approved LOKFLOR manufacturing specification.
LOKFLOR is manufactured in South Africa from South African-supplied Sasol LLDPE at LOKFLOR’s off-grid, solar-powered production facility. Its modular construction supports repair by section, reuse, relocation and recycling where suitable collection and recycling streams exist. These characteristics can reduce unnecessary replacement and construction waste. Environmental claims should remain specific and measurable and should not imply that the product is biodegradable.
LOKFLOR is designed for long-term use. The written DITA warranty provides 15 years of cover against UV degradation and manufacturing defects, subject to its terms and exclusions. The product is manufactured from UV-stabilised Sasol HR3935U or HR3950U resin, both carrying a published UV8 rating. Actual service life depends on base condition, traffic, climate, colour, cleaning, installation quality and misuse. The warranty is issued by DITA/LOKFLOR; it should not be described as a warranty issued or guaranteed by Sasol.
Yes. LOKFLOR can be used indoors and outdoors, provided the selected tile specification and base are suitable for the application. Outdoor uses include playground mats, sports surfaces and temporary ground protection mats. Indoor uses include classroom mat areas, gym mat zones and anti-fatigue mat applications. Each project requires the correct base, drainage, expansion and edge detailing.
LOKFLOR is commonly used as a play mat and playground mat surface in areas where children may be barefoot, including ECD spaces and selected recreational areas. LOKFLOR has a textured, open-grid surface designed to provide traction and allow water to drain. In a Sports Labs laboratory test under dry conditions, the sample recorded a Pendulum Test Value of 93, within the stated 55–110 range in that draft report. This result should not be presented as proof that the floor is slip-proof in all conditions: water, mud, algae, oil, dust, footwear and maintenance still affect traction.
Yes. DITA’s written LOKFLOR warranty provides 15 years of cover against UV degradation and manufacturing defects, subject to the approved warranty terms. The remedy is replacement of affected product only; labour, consequential loss, inconvenience and other additional costs are excluded. LOKFLOR is manufactured from UV-stabilised Sasol HR3935U or HR3950U resin with a published UV8 rating. This material specification supports customer confidence, but the product warranty remains a DITA/LOKFLOR warranty and is not issued by Sasol.

LOKFLOR is suitable for school, club, training, community and selected competitive applications, subject to the requirements of the relevant sport and governing body. A Sports Labs test of LOKFLOR Sports 1G recorded 97% vertical basketball rebound, 0.73 mm vertical deformation and a dry friction value of 93. The report is marked Draft and its 13% shock-absorption result does not meet the 25% minimum shown for EN 14904. LOKFLOR must therefore not be promoted as fully EN 14904 compliant unless current final certification confirms this.
The tile structure provides measurable resilience compared with a rigid base. A Sports Labs test of LOKFLOR Sports 1G recorded 13% shock absorption and 0.73 mm vertical deformation under dry laboratory conditions. The same report identifies the system as a point-elastic sports floor. These results may support comfort and performance claims, but they do not prove that LOKFLOR prevents injuries.
Selected wheeled and roller activities may be possible, depending on wheel size, tile profile, joints and expected speed. The proposed activity should be tested on a sample area before approval, particularly for skateboards, inline skates, wheelchairs and high-speed use.
The best sports surface for a school depends on budget, climate, available base, sports programme, maintenance capacity and desired lifespan. Modular gym flooring and outdoor sport mat systems are strong options where a school needs multi-sport flexibility, drainage, fast installation, replaceable sections and lower dependence on periodic repainting.

LOKFLOR can provide a clean, drained and resilient play surface, but fall-height compliance must be confirmed for the complete tested system.

LOKFLOR is designed for demanding outdoor environments, including rain and strong sunlight. Performance still depends on correct expansion allowance, drainage, base condition and material specification. Exceptional heat, flooding, fire, chemical exposure or structural base movement may damage any sports surface.
All coloured plastics may change with long-term UV exposure. LOKFLOR uses outdoor-grade materials and colourants, but the rate of colour change depends on pigment, climate, orientation and maintenance. Some colours are more UV-stable than others, so outdoor colour selection should follow LOKFLOR guidance.
Yes. LOKFLOR is made from non-absorbent LLDPE and its open-grid design allows rainwater to drain through to the prepared base. The material does not provide a food source for mould and is mould resistant under normal use. Dirt, leaves, algae or organic matter can still accumulate on or below any outdoor surface, so periodic cleaning and effective drainage remain necessary. The Sasol HR3935U and HR3950U raw materials are also identified for food-industry applications and are not classified as hazardous substances or mixtures in their current Safety Data Sheets.
Normal hail exposure is unlikely to affect a correctly specified outdoor tile, but severe hail can damage many building products. Any affected areas should be inspected for cracking or broken connections after an extreme event.
The suitability of the product for freezing climates should be confirmed against the approved material data and temperature range. Correct drainage is important because trapped water and base movement can create problems during freeze-thaw cycles.

LOKFLOR has an open-grid, self-draining design that allows water to pass through the tile to the prepared base. Raw Materials & Product Safety FAQs
DITA uses either Sasol HR3935U or Sasol HR3950U hexene LLDPE. The grade used for a production order depends primarily on availability from Sasol at the date the resin is ordered. Both grades have the same nominal density, UV8 rating, outdoor-use designation and core additive package. Their published mechanical properties are similar, although HR3935U has a lower melt index and slightly higher flexural modulus and low-temperature impact result, while HR3950U has a higher melt index and slightly higher tensile values.
The current Sasol Safety Data Sheets classify both HR3935U and HR3950U as not hazardous substances or mixtures under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. At ambient temperature the polymer is a solid and is not considered harmful in normal skin or eye contact. Normal workplace precautions still apply during manufacturing, particularly for molten polymer, fumes, dust, heat, static and fire exposure.
Yes. Sasol identifies both HR3935U and HR3950U for outdoor use. Both Product Data Sheets describe the grades as heat and UV resistant, tough, abrasion resistant, colourable hexene copolymers with a UV8 rating. They contain antioxidant, UV stabiliser and internal mould-release additives. Final LOKFLOR performance also depends on colour masterbatch, processing control, tile design, installation and exposure conditions.
The Sasol Product Data Sheets state that HR3935U and HR3950U comply with FDA regulation 21 CFR 177.1520 when used unmodified and according to good manufacturing practices for food-contact applications. This is a raw-material statement, not a medical approval or a blanket certification of every finished LOKFLOR product. A current Sasol food-contact compliance declaration should be obtained where a project or tender requires formal evidence.

Cost is calculated from the area, application, colours, design complexity, base condition, installation, transport and project location. A square-metre material rate alone does not represent the complete project cost. LOKFLOR should issue a measured quotation with clear inclusions and exclusions.
